Day 1: Arrival in Svendborg
The tour starts in Svendborg, where you will check into your accommodation. If you arrive early, we recommend going for a walk in the cozy old town. The town was built at the bottom of a small cove in the strait between Fyn and Tåsinge in the first part of the 1100s, and there are many fine timbered houses preserved from the city's prosperity days. Svendborg is today the capital of the South Funen Archipelago with several ferry connections, and it is a nice city with good shopping opportunities and many cafés and restaurants. (-/-/-)
Day 2: From Svendborg to Rudkøbing
Today's hiking starts in Svendborg. You cross the impressive Svendborgssund (Sound) bridge with great views over the Sound and the islands and begin the walk over Tåsinge.
The archipelago Trail leads you along the coast, behind the beautiful Valdemar castle and past the impressive Ambrosius oak. Further along the coastal forests at Lunkebugten, and across the little Siø island to Rudkøbing on Langeland. The day ends with a well-deserved overnight stay at a local hotel in Rudkøbing
Today's hiking is 26 km, but can be shortened to 20 km, for example, by taking the public bus on the last stretch of the walk (not included in the tour price).(B/-/-)
Day 3: From Rudkøbing to Tranekær
After a good breakfast, continue your hike on Langeland. Today's stage brings you along the west coast of the island, past the orchards at Peløkke, through Rifbjerg coppice, and past the small towns of Tullebølle and Løkkeby to the east coast of Langeland. At Løkkeby you will pass past the impressive Løkkeby long barrow, built in the stone age 5,000 years ago. Further up along the east coast of Langeland with it’s beautiful maritime landscape, you may have the opportunity to take a swim at Stengade beach. Tranekær is one of Denmark's best-preserved castle towns, and if you have more energy after the hike, you can have a look around the wonderful castle and the park with the many natural artworks. Accommodation in Tranekær. (approx.22 km) (B/-/D)
Day 4: Bus to Lohals and hike back to Tranekær
Today, it is possible to see the beautiful historical landscapes of Langeland, shaped by the ice age and generations of changing industry. Old meadows, hillsides, flat plains, beautiful forests and a large dolmen with several burial chambers, from which there are magnificent views of Funen. These are just some of the impressions that this days hiking offers. Start the day by taking the bus to Lohals and start the hike from here to Tranekær. On arriving back in Tranekær you pick-up your luggage and take the bus to Svendborg where the trip ends. Extra night after the trip can be booked. Today's hiking is approx. 19 km. (B/-/-)
During the tour you will hike to a new place of accommodation every day. You stay in a double room at local hotels in Svendborg and Rudkøbing. In Tranekær you stay overnight at an inn or in a comfortable B & B (no private bathroom and toilet). An extra night in Svendborg after the tour can be booked on registration for the trip. Single rooms can be booked for an additional fee.
The tour is inclusive of breakfast served at the accommodations. Lunch and dinner are at your own expense, we can recommend eating out in the evening (tips and ideas are sent on departure information). However, dinner is included in Tranekær. Lunch can be ordered at the accommodation, or you can buy a picnic at the local grocery store. If you choose to order a packed lunch at the accommodation, be sure to give the kitchen a message before the evening (picnic package is paid locally).
It is stipulated in the daily program which meals are included or not included in the price of the trip. (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner).
The days walks are between 19 and 26 km and can be carried out by anyone in normal good shape and with the desire and willingness for hiking. They are not technically difficult, but you sleep well after a 26 km days hiking.
